Advanced Mechanical Circulatory Support: Perioperative Echocardiographic and Surgical Pearls and Pitfalls
There has been substantial progress in the field of mechanical circulatory support that have expanded the treatment options for patients with advanced-stage heart failure. Currently available MCS devices can be configured to support the left, right, or both ventricles, offering varying levels of circulatory support. Perioperative transesophageal echocardiography is a major component for surgical and anesthetic decision making during device implantation and for device function evaluation. The aim of this webinar is to comprehensively overview the echocardiographic assessment of patients receiving a temporary or durable MCS. In addition to the standard examination, device-specific pre-, intra-, and postoperative considerations will also be addressed from a surgical and Echocardiographic perspective.
Speaker(s):
Ramesh Singh, MD, MRCS, FACS, FACC Cardiac Surgeon Surgical Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support and Cardiovascular ICU Inova Fairfax Hospital Assistant Professor of Medical Education, University of Virginia
Marcus A. Behrens, MD, Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine
Kiran Belani, MD, FACC, FASE Director of Perioperative Echocardiography, Staff Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, Inova Fairfax Medical Center Assistant Professor, University of Virginia School of Medicine
Moderators:
Richard Sheu MD, FASE Assistant Professor Director, Perioperative Echocardiography Program Director, Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellowship Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, University of Washington Medical Center Member at Large, ASE COPE Council
