Course/Activity Information

Learning Objectives:

  1. Appreciate the incidence of PFO and recognize the potential benefits of atrial shunting in lowering left atrial pressure.
  2. Consider the implications of elevated left atrial pressure in the progression of heart failure.
  3. Recognize the benefits of atrial shunting relative to lower risk of atrial fibrillation and heart failure.
  4. Identify the population at risk for development of heart failure after PFO closure.
  5. Determine which forms of structural heart disease may increase the risk of heart failure following PFO closure.
