This webinar, hosted by Dr. Rebecca Hahn, will focus on the new Standards for the Performance of Transesophageal Echocardiographic Screening for Structural Heart Intervention guideline. The guideline is intended for the Level II or III echocardiographer whose pre-procedural imaging becomes the backbone of structural heart disease (SHD) procedural planning for the heart team. The structured imaging acquisition protocols and extensive figures and tables show examples of the protocols and should benefit all echocardiographers involved in the care of SHD patients.

Course/Activity Information

Target Audience: This activity is designed for all cardiovascular sonographers and physicians with a primary interest and knowledge base in the field of cardiovascular imaging.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review the justification for the new guidelines and appreciate the additional imaging components to a comprehensive imaging protocol prior to structural heart intervention
  2. Review the anatomy of the aortic and mitral valves.
  3. Understand the essential imaging views and hemodynamic assessment required to perform a comprehensive evaluation of aortic valve function.
  4. Understand the essential imaging views and hemodynamic assessment required to perform a comprehensive evaluation of mitral valve function.

The American Society of Echocardiography is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American Society of Echocardiography designates this article for a maximum of 1 hour of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program and/or the American Board of Anesthesiology’s (ABA) Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology Program® or MOCA 2.0®.
