2nd Edition Best of ASE, Volume 6: Echocardiographic Imaging of Native and Prosthetic Valves
This “Best of” Valvular Heart Disease lecture series includes descriptions of the role of echocardiography in diagnosing regurgitant and stenotic valve disease as well as the role of echocardiography in planning and guiding interventional treatments for valve disease.
Organized according to the diagnostic evaluation and interventional guidance for each valve (aortic, mitral, and tricuspid), some of ASE’s best teachers will review the essential techniques for describing valve anatomy and quantifying regurgitation and stenosis, illustrated with case examples and updated for the most recent ASE guidelines. Many technical tips and recommendations will be discussed as well as the most commonly identified pitfalls associated with quantification and data acquisition.
Echocardiography plays a large and increasing role in the interventional management of valve disease. This series provides insight into mapping out the most appropriate course of action in management and treatment of valvular regurgitation and stenosis. Both identification of key anatomic features to predict successful intervention and plan catheter-based approaches and surgical strategies will be reviewed. Procedures such as aortic valve replacement, percutaneous edge-to-edge mitral valve repair, percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty, and emerging techniques for treating tricuspid valve disease will be reviewed with case examples and illustrations of potential complications.
The series concludes with essential techniques for assessing prosthetic valves and the differential diagnosis of prosthetic valve dysfunction.
